This campground is fine for an overnight stop. There is plenty of room to maneuver and facilities were adequate. Office staff was very friendly. There is not a whole lot to do in Ely but this campground offers a nice break from a long day driving in the desert. If you don't want to prepare a meal there are plenty of fast food establishments nearby. There seemed to be quite a few permanent residents but they did not detract from the rest of the park. This is the best place to stop in the Ely area.
This is the second time we have stayed in this park and again it did not disappoint. It is dry camping with no hookups so be sure to fill your fresh water as you enter the park. The sites are well separated with plenty of room for tow vehicles and toads. Very quiet at night except for an occasional coyote in the distance. Each site has a armada to provide shelter from the heat of the day. It is an easy drive to both Reno and Carson City to partake of shopping, dining or the casinos. We will definitely stay here again when in the area.
Despite the fact that this is strictly dry camping it is still a great place to use as a base for exploring Bryce Canyon NP. About a 5 minute walk to the Rim Trail and real close to the park visitor's center. We camped for five days in A loop which is open only to RVs 20 ft and longer. The dump station and fresh water fill were about a half mile drive from the campground. Interior roads were paved but had some potholes. There were quite a few larger sites suitable for big rigs. If you are pulling a fifth wheel be careful about choosing a site as a few of the longer sites have large trees that can hamper opening a slide. While in the park we checked out the Sunrise campground and found it to be much more restricted in terms of maneuvering room and site size than North Campground so if you are pulling a fiver of any size, North is the way to go. We will definitely stay here whenever we visit Bryce Canyon.
Overall this was a "high average" RV park. It is only about five miles from the city center and access was good despite some road paving going on just outside of the park entrance. Pull through site was plenty long enough although if we had put out awning out it would have been very close to the adjacent site. The park had a rather cramped feeling in the area where the actual parking pads were but you could escape that feeling by taking a short walk to the very nice nature trail that surrounds the park. There was some noise from nearby sites but they quieted down after an hour or so. Pool was nice and well maintained but getting ready to close for the season. The workout/game room seemed rather sparce and was located in a rather isolated part of the park. Free continental breakfast was included in the site fee. This seems to be a very busy park at least on weekends (only two or three sites available) so be sure to make reservations a couple days in advance.
This is one of our very favorite campgrounds. We arrived just after noon on a Saturday and the park was mostly full but the site we had to settle for was still very nice. Campground hosts were great and were constantly on patrol to make sure everything was clean and working properly. There are a number of very nice hiking trails nearby along with a top notch pioneer museum so there is plenty to keep kids entertained. Also, Crater Lake NP is only 35 miles away so this makes a great base camp to explore that beautiful park. The only possible drawback was the fact that the pine needles were falling and after one night of light wind the entire campsite and fifth wheel had to be brooded off.
Despite the lack of hookups this is by far the best campground in the park. The sites are much larger than the other campgrounds and the scenery is exceptional. Each loop has several sites that will accommodate big rigs and fifth wheels up to about 34 feet. Campground is closest one to Jackson which is a "must see" attraction in itself. Campground hosts were very helpful although they were very busy with people waiting in line to register. Keep in mind that this is a no reservation campground so the earlier in the day you arrive the better your chances of getting a prime site. Dump site and fresh water are located right in front of the office so once we selected our site we had to drive back out to fill up on fresh water but we only had to do that once for five days of camping. If you plan to use a generator be sure to select a site where generators are allowed. We will use this campground whenever in the Jackson/Teton area.
Overall this is a nice COE campground with attractive sites and clean facilities. Unlike some other similar campgrounds the trees that line the sites and interior roads are trimmed so that they do not interfere with tall fifth wheels. Most sites do not have water so plan accordingly. One caution is worth noting. The campground access road that begins with a sharp right hand turn immediately after crossing a bridge starts off with a 10-12 percent grade on a surface that can be slippery with loose sand. You may want to be in 4WD if you are pulling a heavy trailer. We will camp here again when in the area.
This is a wonderful RV resort hidden within an urban area. Despite it's location the setting was surprisingly quiet with only minimal road noise. The pool was a big attraction, large clean and well equipped with chairs etc. Landscaping was very attractive and constantly being maintained by resort personnel. Laundry was near the pool so we were able to enjoy a swim while our laundry was drying. Staff comes by each morning to collect trash and although we did not use the service there seems to be an agreement with a local contractor to provide RV washing for a fee. This resort does not seem to advertise or even list in the common publications but still they seem to fill every evening. We consider this a destination RV resort and will definitely stay here again.
This campground provided a very pleasant base for exploring the Carlsbad area. The desk personnel were helpful and friendly. This is a very professionally run campground as evidenced by the little things such as sanitizing the water faucet as you enter the site. Sites were adequate size and level. On site restaurant specializing in barbecue was very welcome after a day of exploring the area. As others have said, this campground is not in Carlsbad and is some distance from the caverns but it is workable if you plan to spend a couple nights to provide a full day to go to the national park. One minor drawback is a somewhat objectionable odor coming from the nearby oil wells. This can't be helped and the same would be true of any place you stay in the area.
This state park campground was not on par with others we visited on the same trip. Park is located a considerable distance from Abilene and although no damage was done to the rig the web site directions had us go through a small town with many low hanging trees. Sites were rather small but trees and brush provided privacy. Interior roads seemed narrow due to the trees on both sides. We had no real problems with this campground beside a cramped feeling due to the vegetation. It just does not seem like the kind of place you would go to spend more than a night or two at most. That being said it is probably the best campground in the area so we would stay here again if passing through.
This campground is a "work in progress". When we were there they were still developing new sites and although the pool complex had not yet been completed it will be very nice when it is finished. By the time all the work is done it will probably earn a 9 rating. All sites are large and level although it was a bit muddy due to the ongoing construction and some unseasonably wet weather. The managers and desk personnel went out of their way to be helpful and make our stay enjoyable including giving our grand kids rides in the golf cart. Nearly three months on the road and this was the friendliest campground we visited. The caverns are a nice attraction and are worth the extra cost to take the tour. The setting is exceptional for being in the country yet providing easy access to the interstate highway. We will stay here whenever we are visiting the Shenandoah Valley.
This campground was fine for one or two nights but probably not for an extended stay. Sites were a bit small but workable. Campground has a very nice camp store and the desk personnel were very helpful. There is a very nice museum on the north side of town that covers the history of Western movies made in the area. We spent two hours there and could have spent more. We would stay here again when passing through the area.
This campground is a hidden treasure. Sites were all recently paved and well maintained. There is plenty of room between sites for privacy and the camp was very quiet during our weeknight stay. Several shorter walking trails within the park. There is an outdoor logging/pioneer museum a short walk from the campground that provides a welcome bit of exercise at the end of a day on the road. We will definitely stay here again whenever we are in the area.
